Founded in 1947 by Andrew “Frog” Finley, Finley Shoe Store has been a long-standing tradition for quality boots and shoes in the Lincoln County area.

Frog’s store was originally located one street over, on West Cherry, then later moved to Main Street (a few doors down). In 1959, the current location opened with Frog serving customers for another 16 years before retiring from the shoe business.

Then in January of 1975, long-time customer and family friend Steve Woolfolk took over the business. After 48 years of serving the local community, providing great customer service, high-quality footwear, and apparel, he’s enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

Tom and Tina Hunsel purchased Finley Shoe store in January 2024. They’re looking forward to growing the business to continue to serve Troy and the surrounding communities. They’d like to personally invite you to stop in today for Men’s and Women’s work shoes and boots, casual shoes, and sandals.

A long-time customer, Tom was given his first pair of Red Wing boots by his father, Bob Hunsel, when he was in 8th grade. That pair, purchased in 1979 at Finley Shoe Store, served him well, lasting him long into high school. However, when it was time to buy a pair on his own, Tom, being ‘thrifty’ decided to purchase a cheaper brand from a local department store. Working for a concrete casting company for the summer, this pair lasted him less than a week. He ‘fixed’ them with duct tape to finish the season. For his next boot purchase he headed back to Finley Shoe Store to buy himself a pair of Red Wings. He’s been a loyal customer ever since.

Tom’s family moved to Troy from O’Fallon in 1975. Tina’s (née Bueneman) family has lived in Lincoln County since the mid-1800’s. Both attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School, which at the time, was just a few blocks away from the shoe store. When she was in third grade, Tina fell in absolute love with the tall, handsome, dreamy-eyed, (and goofy) fourth-grader Tom.

Tom, will manage the daily operations of the store, bringing his understanding as a boot consumer, as well as decades of sales experience. Tina, an educator for over 30 years, will continue teaching Adult Education & Literacy for Parkway Schools, but will help with clerical and bookkeeping duties. Together, they pledge to continue to provide great customer service and high-quality footwear.
